Dr Julia Hope is Reader in Higher Education and Academic Practice at the University of Kent, where she leads and contributes to institution-wide work on curriculum and educational development within the Curriculum and Educational Development Team. Her role focuses on supporting colleagues across the university to enhance teaching, strengthen pedagogic leadership and achieve meaningful professional recognition for their educational contributions. A Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) and Senior Fellow of SEDA (SFSEDA), and is committed to widening participation within professional recognition, with particular attention to supporting early-career, Global Majority and precariously positioned colleagues as they navigate academic identities and leadership pathways. Julia’s research explores recognition, trust and belonging in higher education, with current projects on displaced and at-risk academics, early-career leadership, reflective portfolio pedagogies, staff wellbeing, and the micro-practices that shape academic cultures. She has been a member of SEDA for many years, a conference presenter, and is delighted to join the Fellowships Committee. She brings a values-led commitment to reflective, relational, and rigorous academic development, and to ensuring professional recognition remains supportive, inclusive, and robust across the sector.
