Jamie Heywood
Anglia Ruskin University

Jamie is an Associate Professor and Academic Lead for Academic Development & Recognition at Anglia Ruskin University. Jamie leads on designing, developing, and implementing academic development and recognition initiatives and opportunities across the university, which support educational strategic objectives. This is aimed to enhance teaching excellence, academic practice, and the student experience to drive transformative education and positive change and impact. Jamie works in partnership, through collegial and collaborative engagement, with colleagues and teams across faculties and professional service areas, and external connections and the wider sector, to support a diverse range of staff at all stages of their academic development and career.

Jamie acts as the Accredited Programme Lead for the Anglia Ruskin Fellowship Scheme, which supports Continued Professional Development (CPD) and Advance HE professional recognition and supports internal and external awards and recognition which aim to share, recognise, and celebrate practice. Jamie acts as the Course Director for the Learning & Teaching in Practice course and is the Co-Lead of the ARU Active Learning Network. Jamie’s other areas of interest are supporting and fostering active learning and engagement, and promoting wellbeing within teaching and learning.

Jamie was previously an Academic Developer in Anglia Ruskin University, supporting colleagues to develop teaching and learning practice, through CPD, pedagogical support, enhancement, and consultancy. Before joining ARU, Jamie taught on and managed Further and Higher Education courses, specialising in Psychology and Teacher Education. This included undergraduate degrees, professional teacher training qualifications, including PGCE Post-Compulsory Education, Access to Higher Education pathways and 16-19 study programmes.

Jamie holds Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) with Advance HE and Fellowship (FSEDA) with SEDA (Staff and Educational Development Association) and joined as FSEDA Deputy Lead in October 2025. Jamie is currently studying for a Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) at ARU and exploring the impact of Outdoor Learning and Physically Active Learning within Higher Education.
