SEDA Autumn Event Series 2025
Webinar 1: An Educators’ Guide to Multimodal Learning and Generative AI
Tuesday 4th November 2025, 13:00 – 14:00, Online via Zoom

This webinar offers an opportunity to join in discussion on educational developments in Generative AI (GenAI) and Multimodal learning, focusing on this new publication from SEDA which is freely available from the links below.

The Guide presents strategies and techniques for the effective incorporation of GenAI in multimodal forms of teaching, learning, and assessment. It describes examples where educators are taking advantage of the increasing capacities of GenAI to work with and integrate different forms or modes such as audio, graphics, images and video. It focuses on the intersection of multimodal learning and GenAI and is written for both educators and educational developers. The Guide (and this webinar) does not presume any specific experience or expertise in the use of multimodal learning or GenAI.

The Guide is one product from a 2024/25 SEDA Small Grants project, conducted between academics and researchers spread across multiple higher education institutions across Britain and beyond. The project drew on our own experiences with Generative AI in multimodal contexts, as well as data from an extensive literature review, a case-study collection exercise, a survey, and a suite of focus groups with educational developers, educators, and students conducted during 2024–25.

The webinar will cover the following:

  • Brief summary of key developments in GenAI and its educational applications.
  • Defining ‘multimodality’ and its educational implications.
  • Structure and contents of the Guide.
  • Selected case study examples from the Guide – applications in different subjects across FE and HE.
  • Open discussion plus QandA.
