A new professional development award from SEDA

If you are an FE college interested in running this course in your own institution, or an FE practitioner who is interested in what this course could do for you, please contact office@seda.ac.uk.

This award aims to support all practitioners – managers, teachers, and educational developers – working in college higher education, including further education colleges, university partnerships and private providers.

The course is informed by current developments in the sector, and led by Eve Rapley with support from Jonathan Simmons, both of whom have made a significant contribution to the field. It aims to bring practitioners together from across the country, working in a range of roles, and to provide the space to reflect on the reality of working in this diverse and dynamic sector.

Eve Rapley, Course Tutor
Jonathan Simmons, Course Tutor

The course will provide participants with a chance to explore:

  • the idea of capturing HEness and developing HE pedagogies;
  • enhancing scholarly activity;
  • issues related to higher vocational knowledge;
  • and the purposes of peer observation and review in HE.

Participants will produce a portfolio focusing on meeting their own continuing professional development needs, and centred on a series of reflections, case studies, and an action research plan aimed at enhancing an aspect of professional practice.

The course is run entirely on-line, with six formal sessions in twelve weeks. Each session has been designed to be studied for approximately six hours per fortnight with course readings, activities and discussions, but this varies from person to person and you may find you spend more time in some weeks than others. You will be provided with support materials for each session, and a core text, which is included as part of the course fee:
