The SEDA Fellowship and Associate FellowshipThe SEDA Fellowship and Associate
Fellowship schemes provide professional accreditation for those involved in
academic staff and educational development within the post-compulsory education
sector both in the UK and internationally. The schemes are for those who help
lecturers, support staff and their institutions to develop and enhance the
quality of the student learning experience.

Statement on the
SEDA Fellowships scheme
SEDA has decided
to develop a new version of its Fellowships scheme, offering SEDA Associate
Fellowships, Fellowships and Senior Fellowships. The new scheme will be fully
linked to SEDA’s Professional Development Framework. The current ‘Fellowship’
will become ‘Senior Fellowship’, the ‘Associate Fellowship’ will become
‘Fellowship’, and a new Associate Fellowship category will be introduced. We
expect that the new scheme will be launched at our annual conference for
developers in November 2010.
Existing holders
of the Associate Fellowship will automatically be transferred to the new
designation. In the meantime, the existing Associate Fellowship (AFSEDA) will
continue to operate through the three-month professional qualification courses.
The professional qualification course in Supporting Educational Change is next
offered between May and August 2010, with the professional qualification course
in Leading Educational Change next offered between April and July 2010.
In order to
transfer to the Senior Fellowship, existing Fellowship holders will be asked to
make a short supplementary claim against the four revised specialist outcomes
for Senior Fellowship. We hope all existing Fellows will do this and details
will follow later this year. Registrants on the current Fellowship scheme will
be allowed until December 2011 to submit their portfolio for assessment, but
such existing registrants may wish to wait until the proposals for the new
Senior Fellowship scheme are released. The current Fellowships scheme will not
take on further registrants. Anyone interested in the new Senior Fellowship
scheme may record their interest at this point with the SEDA office.
SEDA also
continues to offer short introductory courses, with an online course in
Supporting Educational Change (April-May 2010) and the annual Summer School in
Supporting Educational Change (July 2010).
The SEDA
Executive Committee is taking on direct responsibility for the development of
the new Fellowships scheme and will oversee the transitional arrangements,
including matters pertaining to the assessment of remaining candidates on the
existing scheme. The Executive Committee is grateful to all those who have
contributed to the existing Fellowships scheme, and particularly to the members
of the (now discontinued) Fellowships Committee. We look forward to working
with the Fellowships community in developing the new awards.
